Meet Elisenda Canet based in Barcelona, Elisenda is co-founder and Consulting Director at Qualita our Spanish partner.

How did you get started working with Oracle ERP?
I started working with Oracle ERP in 1997. It happened, I suppose you could say, by accident. I didn't know anything about ERP until a head-hunter called me and offered me a job as a JD Edwards junior Finance Consultant. When I started I was quite apprehensive, I found it complicated and difficult, but I stuck with it. The more I learned the more I liked it. I have never looked back, graduating from my junior role to Snr. Finance Consultant, and today I lead a team of over sixty consultants. What an adventure!

What is your role?
In 2017, I took on the role of leading the Consulting Division, I manage our JD Edwards team of 60 people.

What does your typical day look like?
My typical day is a busy day. I am constantly in contact with my team, getting updates on our clients' projects. There is the logistics part, planning and problem solving, but there is also the 'softer' side, we can never forget we work with people. We are in the service business, so people are at the heart of what we do. Checking in with the team to see how they are getting on is a priority for me. Another important daily activity is checking in with my colleagues in the other departments. We work closely with sales, for example, to ensure that our clients have the resources they need when they need them.

And of course, there are the 'surprises' that are part of any large IT project. What makes this work exciting is that even with the best-laid plans, there are always unexpected situations to be managed and adapted to, projects are alive, and things happen every day.

My job is so varied, and I can safely say that I am never bored.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

What I like about my job is the creativity and the dynamism; every day is different. We are constantly improving and learning.

When I worked as a consultant, I really enjoyed learning about our clients' businesses and products. Each client is unique, you need to adapt, really get to know them, and work hard together to successfully deliver a project. There is a great sense of achievement at the end of projects when both teams (consultants and clients) have come together to build a successful solution. There is the professional satisfaction and then there is also the human side, you meet so many interesting people.

Now my role is different, and what I like is working with a big, diverse group of people, where we each bring a unique set of skills and talents to the table. I create teams for each project, and I support them from the beginning to the go-live. There are lots of roles involved in a project so I like to be as close to them as I can.

Any advice for graduates, particularly women who may be considering a career in Tech?
I would highly recommend a career in Tech because you learn something new every day, and the more you know, the better it is for your career. In Tech, of course, you are always learning about new technologies, but you are also learning about business.
You never get bored, you are always creating, thinking, problem-solving, and looking for the best solutions. Each project is different, so each project is an opportunity to improve. It is a career where, every year, you can grow and stretch yourself both professionally and personally.
