JD Edwards Release 26: Automation, AI and more

Posted by Redfaire International

JD Edwards Release 26 delivers for the C-Suite and daily users alike. We were delighted to attend the Applications Unlimited tour and hear directly from Paul Houtkooper, Vice President of JD Edwards Product Development at Oracle, about the innovations already delivered and what is planned. A highlight of this release is that we see the JDE product team deliver on features that leverage the power of AI for real use cases.

We strongly encourage you to drill down into the full Release 26 notes here, but in the meantime, here is a little taster of what we are excited about.

Applications

The Enterprise Automation Dashboard

This feature provides a central, unified view of enterprise process models, metrics, KPIs, and other data that you can use to get a broad view-or drill into a detailed view of your enterprise to allow you to ingest, model, analyse, solve, and measure your operations on the path to improvement. Specifically, this feature provides the following:

    • The ability to host up to two enterprise process models on an EnterpriseOne page
    • The ability to create split views of process models and snapshots in the Enterprise Process Modeler
    • The ability to highlight differences between split views based on user-defined thresholds
    • The ability to drill into the query definition and the source data that generated metrics and KPIs in a process model

Check out an Oracle-by-Example that describes how to use EnterpriseOne pages to build a unified view of EnterpriseOne automation systems.

Widgets with User Input and Composed Page Pane

JD Edwards widgets just keep getting better and better. This latest feature extends the ability to provide widget input to users. For example, if you want to create a widget that shows the total value of all open sales orders for a business unit, and your company has 20 business units, you don’t need to create and publish 20 widgets. You can create a single widget and enable the user to supply the business unit as input. In this way, widgets can take on a more personalised behaviour for each user, without designers having to create, publish, and manage many widgets for every possible combination of inputs.

Debug Orchestrations with File Inputs

This feature enhances the Debug capability in Orchestrator Studio by enabling you to debug orchestrations that have file inputs. Similar to running an orchestration in Orchestrator Studio, you can specify files as inputs and then step into Debug mode to monitor the step-by-step execution of the orchestration.

System Administration

Scheduler: Web Interface Application

The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Scheduler server and kernel now have an interface that enables system administrators to control, configure, maintain, and monitor scheduled jobs on the web client. The web version of the Scheduler application provides the same functionality as the Windows Development Client version, enabling administrators to perform all scheduler-related functions without the need for a Development Client. Additionally, it enables users to orchestrate and notify about the scheduler records, thus enabling automation and streamlining the administrative tasks. Finally, it offers enhanced options that are not available in the Development Client version, such as the ability to define jobs based on the business day of the month, specify specific operating hours for processing jobs, Virtual Batch Queue awareness, high availability, and more.

Web OMW: Table Operations

Table Operations are tasks that the developers and administrators occasionally need to perform to create and maintain an environment in EnterpriseOne. With this feature, users have the option to manage physical attributes of tables from the EnterpriseOne web client (web OMW), instead of the Development Client. In addition, this feature provides extended options for table indexes that were unavailable in the standard Development Client, such as generating a single index. Finally, an EnterpriseOne user has the option to perform the *ALTER operation on an existing table that has changed its format, in order to retain any existing data.

JD Edwards Update Manager: UN Language Support through Web Software Update

Apply Application Update (UN) Language Packs through the Web Software Updates with this enhancement. Previously, Application Update Language Packs could only be applied through the standard Software Updates application with reliance on the Windows Deployment Server and not through the Change Assistant. With this enhancement, Application Update Language Packs are provided as a multi-platform deliverable that can be applied into the JD Edwards Update Manager repository, through the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne web client and tracked with the software updates history.

Move and Improve Migration/Update Toolkit

Oracle now provides an enhanced toolkit that enables customers to capture their existing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne environment, and easily import into a new already updated code current environment - Moving and Improving existing JD Edwards to an updated JD Edwards instance, potentially from one location to a completely different location.

JD Edwards and Oracle AI - Combining the Power of AI with the Power of JDE

Oracle has made significant strides to enable its customers to benefit from the power of AI by delivering intelligence capabilities at various levels of the Oracle Cloud ecosystem. These innovations span across infrastructure, data platforms, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, and SaaS applications.

The ability to integrate JD Edwards with Oracle’s AI cloud services enables businesses to use their existing data to obtain deep insights, improve decision making, and reduce costs. Already with lease 24 (Tools Release 9.2.8.2), the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Orchestrator is enabled to use the OCI API Signature Version 1 to authenticate to a vast assortment of OCI services including OCI AI services

Using the power and flexibility of Orchestrator combined with the breadth of infrastructure, utility, and AI services offered by OCI, we can imagine many new usage patterns and solutions to augment your EnterpriseOne ERP system. Check out our blog on developing a JD Edwards AI Strategy.
