What is MCP ( Model Context Protocol) and why do you need to know about it? There was a lot of talk at Infocus '25 in Denver about JD Edwards, AI and MCP. Here are some resources to help get you started.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) was introduced in November 2024 by Anthropic and was met with viral adoption rates. Until MCP, large language models (LLMs) had never been able to directly interact with external data sources and APIs. For the layperson, MCP has been described as the 'USB-C' cable for AI. For the more technically minded:
"By providing a unified way to pass context, MCP unlocks new possibilities for building intelligent, context-aware applications. MCP acts as a lightweight protocol that standardizes tool interfaces. Its standardized approach to tool interaction is particularly beneficial for agents, which often require complex interactions with multiple tools and data sources." Learn more.
Oracle evaluated MCP and announced in July that it had integrated it into its core developer tools, making the Oracle Database immediately available on any platform supporting MCP.
