Data Protection & Compliance in JD Edwards - Checklist Image

So, what can you and your organisation do? We’ve been working with JD Edwards data optimisation for the last twenty years and we’ve come up with a simple yet effective checklist.

1. Know your Data - What you don't know can hurt you

An obvious but important step is to really understand your data. While most clients have a high-level view of key data indicators, we've found that drilling down and getting insights on:

  • Data Quantity.
  • Data Growth Rates.
  • Table size.
  • Data Testing.
  • Data Refresh.

is invaluable when building a plan to protect and optimise your JDE data.  We offer all JD Edwards clients a free data health check. The output of this report gives you the information you need to develop a proactive data management plan.

2. A Rigorous Data Retention Policy

With the advent of regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, etc a rigorous data retention policy is essential for good governance. However, developing and implementing a comprehensive JD Edwards data retention policy can be about more than just meeting regulatory requirements, it is also be an opportunity to educate stakeholders on the benefits of proactive data management. Once users understand the importance of proactive management and see that there are simple and effective tools to manage JDE data, they are more open to 'letting go' of some of their data. With Datawaire, you always have simple and easy access to any of your archived data. In general, once users see this easy access, they are less likely to hold on to data 'just in case.'

3. Reduce Data Load

Once you have your data retention policy in place you can start to reduce the quantity of data in the production environment. Reducing data in the production environment delivers both improved performance and risk reduction. Despite this, some users are still slow to part with 'their' data, that is why it is important to reassure end-users that they will still have easy access to the archived data.

4. Data Refresh & Encryption

With Datawaire, you have a simple tool to ensure that Production, Test & Development environments are not creating compliance issues. Data is anonymised and/or encrypted at source so any databases that are cloned do not increase your risk. Our Datawaire GDPR module is based on the JD Edwards Address Book Master (FO101). It is highly configurable down to field level and it can handle custom tables.

  • In the production environment there is ongoing identification and masking of sensitive and customer data based on regulatory requirements. It is highly configurable and uses different criteria to establish if a customer is active or not.
  • In non-production environments, the module enables unconditional masking to obscure all sensitive data
